Valencia (Spain)

Valencia is one of the European cities in the SCITHOS network
Valencia is the third Spanish city with the highest economic activity. Located in the center of the Mediterranean corridor, the city ranks – with over 170.000 companies- the 1st Spanish Port in container traffic and among the 10 European cities with the highest international events activity. It is also home of over 3.000 Erasmus students every year.

Smart City Hospitality in Valencia
Valencia is a founder city of the Spanish Network for Smart Cities and It also belongs to the Euro Mediterranean Network of Sustainable Cities. Its strategy is based on smart growth (Knowledge and innovation), sustainable Growth (with the effective use of resources) and Inclusive Growth (high level of employment, delivering social and territorial cohesion).
The specific objectives of the smart city project in Valencia are to design a strategy to foster R+D+I, talent and entrepreneurship, through joint responsibility and reciprocal knowledge. The Strategy gathers key agents from R+D+I and entrepreneurship local ecosystem: public and private universities, Business Organisations, Research and Technological Institutes and Public Administration and directs key agent´s efforts and actions towards common objectives.
The Valencia Smart City Strategy accounts 4 different projects. Each of them with its own objective

  1. To foster city talent and knowledge by attracting new ideas and opportunities for research and innovation.
  2. To foster the development of institutional and business innovation.
  3. To allocate Valencia at International Scene for Research and Innovation
  4. Valencia Smart City: APV, CEEI, CEU-CH, CEV, CPI-UPV, CSIC, ESIC, PCUV, REDIT.

All the different smart city projects are being carried out in its own Smart Strategy: Smart Governance (electronic Site, Geographic Information System, and Accessibility), the Smart Economy (Local Innovation Maps and the Geo Emprende Project) Smart Mobility (Sustainable Plan for Valencia, Public Rental Bike System, and Sustainable vehicles) and Smart Environment (with projects like the smart water meters, the sensors for early forest fire detection, and an integrated advance system for water management) Smart People (with an APP entirely developed by the Valencia city council, with Geo-located and real-time information, city council applications, urban informer…) Smart living (with an intelligent system for the efficient response, and an integral information system for emergency support, and an advanced support system for control command. And Smart Tourism (with an APP for booking and ticketing and projects in Geo-referenced online platforms for on line booking of different products and services.
