MEET THE TEAM

The SCITHOS research team is shaped around a variety of disciplines and interests, leading to a multidisciplinary, international project.

Ko Koens

Project Manager

Ko is a Senior Lecturer at Breda University of Applied Sciences. His main research interests are city hospitality and sustainable urban tourism, with a specific focus on small businesses and entrepreneurship in economically deprived areas. Ko also is taskforce coordinator sustainable development for the Dutch “Centre of Expertise in Leisure, Tourism and Hospitality” (CELTH).

Frans Melissen

Scientific Director

Frans is a Professor of Sustainable Business Models at the Academy of Hotel and Facility Management, Breda University of Applied Sciences, the Netherlands. In his research, he focuses on the link between sustainability and human behaviour, with special emphasis on mitigating the social dilemma by means of sustainable business models.

 

Antonio Paradell

Researcher

Antonio holds a Degree in Telecommunication Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and joined Worldline Spain in 2014 as responsible of the company’s research and innovation activities, and he is also participating in several research projects in the health and well-being sector, such as SocialCare, WearLumb, ALFRED and Connected Assistance.

Hans de Bruin

Researcher

Hans is a professor of Expertise & Valorization Management at HZ University of Applied Sciences, Vlissingen, The Netherlands. His research interest includes the development of practical methods, techniques and systems to encourage collaboration between stakeholders acting in complex situations.

 

 

Thomas Buijtenweg

Researcher

Thomas Buijtenweg is a researcher in the fields of entertainment games and personality profiling at Breda University of Applied Sciences. His main research area entails the creation of games as well as how players and society interact with these cultural objects. Through the study of player behaviour, Thomas aims to create a framework for player system interaction.

Jessika Weber

Researcher

Jessika Weber is a senior researcher at the Faculty of Digital Entertainment at Breda University of Applied Sciences under the professorship of Applied Games, Innovation and Society, where she conducts research on games with the focus on leisure, tourism and hospitality. Her research ranges from experience design of location-based games, as well as games for organisations to explain complex issues.

Carlo Aall

Researcher

Carlo is head of environmental research at WNRI (Western Norway Research Institute) and professor in sustainable development. His main research interests are sustainable development, sustainable tourism and climate change mitigation and adaptation policy. He is also involved together with his wife in a farm restaurant specialising on organic and local food (www.henjatunet.no). He is also a professor at Sogn og Fjordane University College teaching at the master class in climate management.

Igor Mayer

Researcher

Igor is a professor of ‘Applied Games, Innovation & Society’ at Breda University of Applied Sciences, the Netherlands  This professorship is affiliated to the Academy for Digital Entertainment (ADE), one of those departments is the Game Academy. His main research area - Playful Organisations & Learning Systems - concerns the development, use and evaluation of gaming-simulation and serious games for policy analysis, decision-making, management and organisation.

Danny Linssen

Researcher

Danny has a background in tourism and a Master degree in media innovation and explores research- and business projects to demonstrate the added value of engagement via media and games for other sectors by means of lab experiments, pilots and real-life interventions in individual behaviour or organisational change. He works for of Breda University of Applied Sciences' Academy for Digital Entertainment with the focus on 'engaging playful experiences' in 'digitally enhanced realities'.

Irem Önder

Researcher

Irem is Assistant Professor at the Department of Tourism and Service Management at MODUL University Vienna. Her research interests include social media, big data analysis, decision support systems, online travel information search, and forecasting.

Lidija Lalicic

Researcher

Lidija is a researcher and lecturer in the Department of Tourism and Service Management at MODUL University Vienna. Her research interests are related to technology-enhanced tourist experiences, innovative marketing and entrepreneurial practices in the field of tourism.

Joey Relouw

Designer

Joey is a 3D artist who focuses on the creation of VR and AR environments. He graduated in 2012 as a 2D graphic media designer (SintLucas) and in 2016 as a 3D game artist (International Game Architecture and Design program at Breda University of Applied Sciences).

 

Kevin Hutchinson

Developer

Kevin is a programmer and game designer at Cradle, a research and development lab within Breda University of Applied Sciences. In Cradle, he fulfils a broad range of tasks, including system development, UI design, game design and game balancing.

Victoria Naisola Ruiter

Researcher

Victoria is a Lecturer at NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences. Her research focus is on hospitality attitudes and the link to social psychology by means of psychometric testings. She is also actively involved with ETFI (European Tourism Futures Institute).

Karen Richardsen Moberg

Researcher

Karen is a researcher in the environment group at WNRI (Western Norway Research Institute). Her main research interests are sustainable development, climate politics and governance, and policy analysis.

Carlos Pereira Santos

Research & Development Coordinator

Carlos Pereira Santos is a R&D Coordinator in Breda University of Applied Sciences, and technical responsible for multiple projects that push innovation involving cutting-edge technology like Augmented and Virtual Reality, Games and User Experience. He published several commercial and applied games, and he is a lecture of the Artificial Intelligence in Games.
